Ive always wanted to build a Linux machine - haven't upgraded past win7 cuz of the t/cs...moved to Apple bc lesser of evils...yet ive got a spare thin client laying around from all the IT field work I do.
Got a recommendation? Perhaps make a post on how to build it? The private line app basically kills my phone comms and stops anything from working so its like what CAN we actually do?
It's not impossible to change an old computer to Linux, but it helps if you have someone who can guide you through the process. Once you've done it, you're set.
Poor does not mean foolish!! My relationship with my phone is about to expire. I'm going to connect it to a trunk line service so I can still get texts and hold the old number so no one can masquerade as me.
It's like twilio, but we are still evaluating services. Main thing you want is a service that can receive texts and offer incoming calls to vm, that can be delivered through a private service like privateLINE.

Here's the process on a Windows computer:

There might be other guides out there; I had someone walk me through the process step by step via phone.
I have Linux Mint on my backup computer.
Yet what about the subchip's inside the newer CPUs?
That's the admin layer (Talpiot program) since 2003 that I am aware of. Shielding and a strong firewall can help with that.
Excellent advice, Decode. I'll keep working on the community so that we're not each doing this on our own.

It's not that hard, but you probably will not use a Mac, mainly x86 based computers.
Correct. I've only done it once, on a Windows 7 computer.
Every single day! Every. Single. Day!!! I do a happy dance that I have no phone!
You are very wise!
More, I am dirt poor and have never been able to afford one. LOL! But… These days, even if I could afford it, I would not get one.

U use twilio or similar service?

Please share who, when the find the vendor!
True, it does not mean foolish. LOL! I have never had one in all these years of cell phones.
That's a fair summary of the situation.
