I live here, one block downhill from Masonic, Fairmont, Mark Hopkins, Grace. 26 years on Nob Hill thanks to Vacancy Control and luck. I write to agree and disagree about the West Coast Imperial City. Until the end of the Vietnam War yes, SF was the Power Hub. I would say though San Francisco Bay Area as a whole has no center. Power today is diffused. Networked. Women or Men who decide are members of many clubs. A commonality is diversity. All know all. All have to a degree a shared consensus towards an aspirational goal that may alter rapidly.
By 2023 the entire state of California though is driven to ruin. There are only fragments of the power remaining. As we move straight into early stage Neo-Feudal banditry with casual use of genocide to obtain objectives I would say the global system is a victim of it's own colonial technique.
